PRESS RELEASE – DEMOCRACY DAY MESSAGE

DEMOCRACY DAY MESSAGE TO ALL NIGERIANS BY THE YOUNG PROGRESSIVE PARTY (YPP).

The Young Progressive Party heartily felicitate with all Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s democracy day celebration marking 19 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, which is the longest and most tumultuous we have ever experienced as a nation.

While 19 years of democracy may not have delivered to us the desired dividends in terms of rapid socio-economic and political development, the fact that democracy is still in existence in Nigeria is a bright side worth reflecting upon despite our obvious challenges. As a party, we hold the strong view that the worst democratic government is better than the best military government and trading the former for the latter will never be an option worth contemplating.

While we agree that we are not where we want to be as a nation, we may also be forced to acknowledge that we are not where we use to be even though our speed and approach to development leaves much to be desired.

We want to implore all Nigerians to continue to keep faith with the nation, remain law abiding, get involved in governance and learn to hold our leaders accountable as the concise explanation on why we have not been able to experience real development in spite of our rich human capital resource is due to massive deficit in leadership capital.

May we also use this annual occasion to assure Nigerians of our commitment to change this leadership deficit trajectory as we continue as a movement to breed young political leaders without greed armed with a global mental picture of how Nigeria should be, which is a country driven by knowledge.

PRESS STATEMENT – THE STANCE OF YPP ON THE MOVE BY A RIVAL POLITICAL PARTY TO DEREGISTER OUR GREAT PARTY

PRESS STATEMENT – THE STANCE OF YPP ON THE MOVE BY A RIVAL POLITICAL PARTY TO DEREGISTER OUR GREAT PARTY

I PRESS STATEMENT I

May 30, 2018.

THE STANCE OF YPP ON THE MOVE BY A RIVAL POLITICAL PARTY TO DEREGISTER OUR GREAT PARTY.

1. It has come to our notice the news making the rounds on several media platforms on the move by a rival political party, the Young Democratic Party (YDP) to deregister our great party, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) on the basis of our party’s acronym and we consider it appropriate to respond in order to put things in proper perspective.

2. In as much as we would not have dignified a moribund entity seeking relevance with a response owing to the fact that the matter is already in court, we are however compelled to respond in order not to be seen as aiding the shenanigans of some characters hiding under the platform of a political party.

3. We are amazed that while serious minded political parties are busy consulting, engaging and propagating their manifestos to Nigerians, the Young Democratic Party (YDP) on the other hand had been busy engaging in a wild goose chase that will only end in futility and shame as the case instituted against the Young Progressive Party (YPP) as regards its acronym is baseless and lacks merit.

4. While we are not unaware of the possibility of envy as the impetus for this latest action owing to our party’s rise to prominence in just 10 months due to vision, hardwork and resilience, it is however laughable that a so called political party in Nigeria will stoop so low and begin to engage in mindless games, which neither strengthen nor add value to our democracy.

5. May we also inform all our members that our legal team is already handling the matter and and their collective view can be encapsulated in one sentence “the case is dead on arrival”

6. The task ahead is enormous and we can not afford to remove our gaze from the ultimate goal and that is why we are imploring our teeming members to remain focused, tenacious and continue to consolidate on our impressive achievements thus far recorded as this childishness from the Young Democratic Party (YDP) is a needless distraction that is not worth our precious time.

Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins
National Publicity Secretary.

PRESS RELEASE – DONATE AND NOT SHED BLOOD- YPP

PRESS RELEASE – DONATE AND NOT SHED BLOOD- YPP

10th March, 2018.

DONATE AND NOT SHED BLOOD- YPP

Members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) led by its National Chairman, Comrade Bishop Amakiri were guests at the National Hospital, Garki, Abuja on March 10th, 2018 on a voluntary blood donation exercise to herald a nationwide campaign that will be carried out by members and volunteers in all states of the Federation. This campaign is aimed at awakening the consciousness of Nigerians on the mutual benefits associated with blood donation for beneficiaries and donors alike. While a pint of blood can save the lives of 4 adults or 7 children, donors on the other hand enjoy a healthy living as a result of the regeneration of their bone marrows.

The National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Egbeola Olawale Martins sharing his thoughts on the campaign said, symbolically, blood is sacred and should be given to save lives. He said the government should think outside the box and exercise the much needed political will within the ambits of the law to put an end to the incessant bloodshed in many parts of the country such as Benue, Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Plateau, Kaduna etc carried out by the rampaging Fulani herdsmen and the dreaded Boko Haram sect as blood according to him should be freely given to save lives and not to be shed to end same.

5TH NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (NEC) MEETING

5TH NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (NEC) MEETING

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 5TH NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (NEC) MEETING OF THE YOUNG PROGRESSIVE PARTY (YPP) HELD ON SATURDAY, MARCH 03, 2018 AT THE NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, ABUJA.

The 5th National Executive Committee meeting of the Young progressive Party was held on Saturday, March 03, 2018 at the National Secretariat, Abuja to among other things deliberate on ways to further add value to our great party and also examine the state of the nation.

Our communique reads:

1. We commend the perseverance of Nigerians for enduring the longest fuel scarcity ever witnessed in the history of our beloved country and confidently believe that the APC led government will go down in history as the most clueless in the history of this nation for allowing this scarcity to linger for over four months even after the removal of subsidy it hitherto claimed never existed.

Also, the recent claim by the GMD of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru that the sum of N774m is incurred daily as subsidy for petrol without appropriation by the National Assembly is an organized fraud against the nation and a brazen looting of our common patrimony by an acclaimed sanctimonious ruling party, which from all indication is only interested in raising campaign fund for the fast approaching 2019 general elections.

2. Pursuant to the provisions of section 85 of the Electoral Act, 2010 as amended in 2014 on the conduct of elections for replacement of National officers, Mr. Raymond Onyebuchi Jefferson from Delta State was elected as the new National Organizing Secretary with representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission present to observe this process.

3. We condemn in strong terms the abduction of the 105 Dapchi girls by the conscienceless Boko Haram sect whose level of depravity has rose to a fearsome crescendo.

The fact that we are witnessing the repeat of the Chibok girls episode goes to show that our government never learnt anything and further suggest that the claim that Boko Haram has been technically or completely defeated is a ruse.

More worrisome however is the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari in his usual characteristics had to prioritize a wedding ceremony over his visit to Dapchi were 105 girls were recently abducted and whose only crime was getting an education. This singular action does not show empathy more so that the APC as an opposition party condemned the immediate past government for doing same.

We therefore call on the government to as a matter of urgency do everything necessary to secure the release of the 105 Dapchi girls, the remaining Chibok girls and all innocent citizens that have been abducted and taken into captivity by this heartless sect. The President Muhammadu Buhari government should also invest heavily in intelligence, which will put the military in a vantage position of being proactive rather than reactive.

4. We also want to reiterate our forthcoming programme “GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE CAMPAIGN” scheduled to hold on Saturday, March 10, 2018 in Abuja and subsequently expected to be replicated in other States’ chapters. This programme, which is a free blood donation by members of YPP is part of our corporate social responsibility aimed at showing the premium we place on lives.

Comrade Egbeola Olawale Martins
National Publicity Secretary.

YPP FELICITATES WITH NIGERIANS ON THE OCCASION OF THE 2017 CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION IN SPITE OF THE LINGERING FUEL SHORTAGE IN THE NATION.

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) will like to felicitate with Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebration which marks the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ whose life and teachings epitomizes empathy, humility and love.

While the present state of the country does not give reason for celebration owing to the poor state of the economy occasioned by a rudderless leadership immersed in all kinds of controversies that all but add little or no value to our development as a Nation, we however want to urge all Nigerians not to loose hope but continue to imbibe the good virtues of our Lord Jesus Christ with more emphasis on the principal virtue of WISDOM in order not to be deceived by these same set of charlatans in the PDP & APC who have held the Nation bound for about two decades.

We hope that the current hardship will provoke a paradigm shift that will see only young and highly cerebral leaders without greed with the will-power to uphold the rule of law, implement e-governance, drive a knowledge economy and invest heavily in human capital development elected as leaders at all strata come 2019 through the platform of the Young Progressive Party, which ironically is the only credible alternative if the above must be actualized.

May we also call on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of National emergency come up with an immediate solution to the lingering fuel crisis which seems to have overwhelmed the inept think-tank of the current administration who made Nigerians to believe that the removal of subsidy will bring an end to this perennial problem that has become a yearly ritual. The fact that Nigerians have been patient with this visionless government by accepting the removal of subsidy does not mean they should keep on insulting us with their gross incompetence.

A government that lacks the expertise or initiative to resolve the problem of fuel shortage in a country that is ranked among the top 10 oil producing nations in the world even after the removal of subsidy it hitherto claimed to be a clog in the wheel of a seamless supply with almost 3years in the saddle does not possess the capacity to bring about the rapid socio-economic and political development Nigerians earnestly yearns for.

Conclusively, while wishing Nigerians a merry Christmas and prosperous 2018, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) still wants to re-emphasis the principal virtue of WISDOM even as the 2019 general elections approaches.

Comrade Egbeola Wale Martins.
National Publicity Secretary.

ALLEGATION OF CORRUPTION AND GROSS ABUSE OF OFFICE AGAINST THE GMD OF NNPC, ALHAJI MAIKANTI BARU.

ALLEGATION OF CORRUPTION AND GROSS ABUSE OF OFFICE AGAINST THE GMD OF NNPC, ALHAJI MAIKANTI BARU.

ALLEGATION OF CORRUPTION AND GROSS ABUSE OF OFFICE AGAINST THE GMD OF NNPC, ALHAJI MAIKANTI BARU.

ONE CASE TOO MANY

No doubt corruption has been the bane of our socio-economic and political development as a nation since independence with over $600billion estimated to have been looted from the nation’s treasury in the past five decades.

Nigerians overwhelmingly voted not for the All Peoples Congress (APC) but for President Muhammadu Buhari who was perceived as a man of integrity with an undeniable capacity to halt the unabating rise in the acts of corruption which got to a nauseating proportion before the 2015 general elections however, it is now obvious that what we need as a nation are strong institutions and not strong individuals.

The trend of events that have characterized this government since assumption of office over two years ago especially as it borders on the war against corruption shows that not much has changed thereby leaving more to be desired as the zest exhibited during campaigns before the 2015 general elections seemed to have fizzled out as soon as the APC won the Presidential election.

The ongoing allegation of corruption and gross abuse of office against the GMD of NNPC in the person of Dr. Maikanti Baru by the Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachukwu is one case too many and just like every other corruption cases before it such as the corruption allegation against the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abba Kyari and the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal would be swept under the carpet thereby giving credence to the statement of Senator Shehu Sani that the President fights corruption with insecticide when it comes to others but uses deodorant when it comes to members of his executive.

While we have not entirely given up on the ability of the President to provide leadership especially in tackling this menace that has continued to constitute a clog in the wheel of our nation’s progress, the Young Progressive Party do hereby recommend in line with global governance best practices as follows:

1. The immediate suspension and investigation of the allegation of misappropriation and gross abuse of office against Dr. Maikanti Baru in order to ascertain the level of culpability in the fraudulent award of contracts to the tune of $26billion dollars without following due process.

2. The immediate appointment of a substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources who can effectively see to the day to day running of the Ministry and whom Nigerians can hold accountable for any breach of public trust.

3. The immediate implementation of the report submitted by the Presidential panel headed by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo set up to investigate the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal and the Director General of the NIA, Mr. Ayo Oke.

Conclusively, it is instructive that the above recommendations be strictly implemented in order for the present administration to gain back the confidence of majority of Nigerians who have come to see the ongoing anti-corruption war as selective and targeted at anybody but members of the APC and the Executive.

Long Live YPP!

Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!

National Publicity Secretary.

A RAY OF HOPE FOR NIGERIA AT 57

May we use this great opportunity to congratulate Nigeria and Nigerians for yet another independence anniversary marking 57years of freedom from the grip of our colonial masters. Though tough was the road to independence but tougher still has been the road since independence.

While a large portion of our population may not see any sense in celebrating a nation perceived to have failed us, it is however expedient to state unequivocally that Nigeria has not failed us but rather we as citizens have failed this great country by our blatant refusal to challenge a system that has consistently failed to produce quality leadership, drive sustainable socio-economic development and build institutions.

If the labour of our heroes past must truly not be in vain, then it is high time we as citizens especially the youths shunned the things that divides us and collectively channel our strength through political participation to the things we are forced to have in common such as unemployment, poverty and underdevelopment which does not know tribe, religion or creed.

The battle for the soul of our great nation is in progress and we must decide as Nigerians whether we want to seize this rear opportunity of joining the revolution by challenging the status quo through poitical participation or continue to bask in the euphoria of our political nonchalance while a few are left to determine our collective destiny. To limit our involvement in political participation to just barrage of complaints on the social media and the little corners of our rooms will not change anything.

However, there is a ray of hope and we cannot afford to give up just yet because we are at the point of spotting that light at the end of a dark tunnel of our failed political experiment which has thrown all kinds of leaders at us.

While congratulating all Nigerians once more on this auspicious occasion of her 57th independence anniversary, kindly join the Young Progressive Party movement so that we can together challenge and change the current narrative.

Signed:
Comrade Egbeola Olawale Martins
National Publicity Secretary.
