COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 28TH NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE (NWC) MEETING
COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 28TH NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE (NWC) MEETING OF THE YOUNG PROGRESSIVES PARTY (YPP) HELD ON MONDAY, 3RD NOVEMBER 2025 AT THE NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, ABUJA
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) held its 28th emergency meeting on Monday, 3rd November 2025, at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja to deliberate on urgent national issues and internal party matters.
After extensive deliberations, the NWC resolved as follows:
1. Expulsion of Hon. Uzokwe Lovepet Ifeanyi Peter
The National Working Committee ratified the immediate expulsion of Hon. Peter Uzokwe, member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency for gross misconduct in violation of the Party’s Constitution, specifically Section 36(7), Article (b, f & o), page 68, which outlines Offences and Sanctions. This decision follows multiple petitions and verifiable video evidence of his anti-party activities.
The Party also wishes to categorically refute his false claim of being the Leader of the YPP. At no time did the Party appoint or ratify him as its leader following the vacation of the same position by our late National Leader, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah.
Hon. Uzokwe’s recent appearance at an APGA rally, where he falsely declared that YPP has no candidate in the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election is not only misleading but also an act of desperation by a man whose political relevance has waned. His actions amount to gross indiscipline and a deliberate attempt to deceive the public. The NWC views this conduct as unbecoming of a lawmaker and calls on party members and the general public to disregard his claims in totality.
2. On Nigeria’s Designation as a “Country of Particular Concern” by the United States Government
The YPP notes the recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” by the United States Government over ongoing religiously motivated violence and the alleged genocide against Christians.
This development does not come as a surprise to the Young Progressives Party, as we have for years warned against the politicization of terrorism, insurgency, and banditry by successive administrations. We have consistently urged the government to utilize intelligence effectively to identify, arrest, and prosecute the financiers of terrorism, who serve as the oxygen fueling these criminal networks.
Regrettably, not a single financier has been prosecuted or jailed for sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria, even when the United Arab Emirates had earlier convicted and forwarded names of Nigerian collaborators to our government. This continued failure underscores the government’s lack of political will to end insecurity.
What is even more worrisome is that public officials are now debating the deaths of Nigerians, whether Christians, Muslims or Atheists, rather than uniting against a common enemy. This reflects the erosion of our collective humanity and the abdication of governmental responsibility to protect lives and property.
If this U.S. designation will compel urgency on the part of the Nigerian government to decisively confront terrorists, insurgents and their financiers, then it is a welcome development. However, we must emphasize that Nigerians of all faiths have been victims of these killings and peace cannot be achieved without justice. The continued granting of amnesty to terrorists under the guise of a “non-kinetic approach” while their victims languish in IDP camps is both unjust and unacceptable.
The YPP therefore calls on the Federal Government to prioritize justice, accountability and decisive military and intelligence action to bring an end to terrorism and restore the sanctity of human life in Nigeria.
