KIDNAP OF CROSS RIVER YPP GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE
YOUNG PROGRESSIVES PARTY
17th March 2023.
1. The kidnap of the Cross River State Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate of the Young Progressives Party, Prince Agbor Onyi alongside three others yesterday, Thursday, 16th March 2023 around Akparavuni in Biase LGA of Cross River State is reprehensible and condemnable.
2. While it is no longer news that the ruling APC government has failed in its statutory responsibility of protecting lives and property, it is however unfair for citizens to continue to bear the brunt of this ineptitude that has led to despondency on the part of millions of Nigerians.
3. No citizen deserves to be kidnapped, let alone being asked to pay ransom in a supposedly free society where fundamental rights ought to be guaranteed. The country is gradually sliding into a state of anarchy where non state actors are gradually taking charge.
4. This is calling for the immediate unconditional release of Prince Agbor Onyi and all those kidnapped along with him as they are also victims of the misgovernance of over two decades under the PDP and APC that has led to a high rate of poverty, unemployment and misery index.
5. We also call on the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the DSS, Cross River State Commissioner of Police and other relevant security agencies to as a matter of urgency, rescue these victims and reunite them with their families within the shortest time possible.
6. Conclusively, President Muhammadu Buhari should use the time remaining from his inglorious rule to retrospect, make amends where necessary and endeavour to make a last minute attempt to leave Nigeria better than he met it.
